Most joists are around 100mm to 150mm deep, to obtain the required depth of 270mm another layer of loft insulation is laid across the joists at 90 degrees, this layer is not supported by the joists and joists cannot be seen, making walking across the loft a hazardous task, and any plan to use the loft space quite difficult.
